During the 2014-2015 school year, Creative Arts Council’s School of Ballet was proud to partner with the Wells Community Boys and Girls Club to teach dance concepts to participants from the Boys and Girls Club at no cost to the students. There were two one hour classes per age group, with a performance at Creative Art’s annual fundraising Gala in April 2015. With the exposure to the art form of dance, this outreach program aimed to give students self-esteem tools and skills that could be applied throughout their lives.

Program Benefits:

  • Offered exposure to dance artists

  • Taught the power of the imagination and self-worth through creativity

  • Enhanced self-confidence

  • Created enthusiasm for dance

  • Inspired future artists and audience members

  • Provided a forum for personal expression

  • Increased communication skills (verbal and non-verbal)

  • Presented opportunities to perform

  • Provided an in-house forum for arts discussion

Additionally, offering access and inclusion into the world of dance through classes and school performances at little or no cost to participants, our outreach program aimed to identify potential community talent for the School of Ballet scholarship program and for other dance and theater performances.

Dance instruction was provided to two age groups: the Cadets, age 5-8 and Juniors and Teens, age 9-15. We averaged 15-20 per class for the summer and 10-15 per class during the school year. Additionally, the students were transported to the Arts Commerce and Visitors Center to experience taking dance class using the beautiful dance studio on the lower level of the center.
