Our History

The Creative Arts Council of Wells County’s roots stretch back to 1973, when a group of passionate local townspeople came together with a simple yet profound vision: to bring classical music to the community. Their desire to share the beauty and power of music sparked the creation of what would eventually grow into Creative Arts. What started as a small initiative quickly blossomed into a vibrant arts council that would serve not only music enthusiasts but artists of all kinds. Over the years, the organization expanded its offerings, gradually adding more programs and services to nurture the creative talents of individuals in Wells County and beyond.

Today, Creative Arts continues to honor the vision of those founding members, who laid the groundwork for the arts community that exists today. Through the years, their unwavering support and foresight have helped shape Creative Arts into the dynamic and multifaceted organization it is now. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, as their initial efforts have paved the way for generations of artists, performers, and community members to find inspiration and connection through the arts. With each passing year, Creative Arts remains committed to continuing this legacy, providing access to the arts and enriching the cultural fabric of the region for years to come.

Dance Academy

Creative Arts Council’s School of Ballet began in 1976 when former Broadway performer, Beth Lampton, began offering classes at the Creative Arts Council. After almost 50 years (and a name change) Creative Arts Dance Academy is thriving. Creative Arts Dance Academy offers classical ballet technique classes taught by Cecchetti (USA) certified instructors for all levels.

Creative Arts Theater Department

In 2000, Wells Community Theater (WCT) began providing opportunities for community members to create and enjoy theater. Creative Arts absorbed WCT in 2011, now named Creative Arts Theater Department, providing a way for quality theater to become even more accessible to Wells County and surrounding areas. From singing and acting on stage to building sets or simply watching and enjoying the performance, the experience of theater is enriching for all. Newcomers of ALL ages are always welcome!
